It has been revealed that Honda LCR MotoGP rider Randy de Puniet broke his left ankle while training on a motocross bike last Saturday.

The Frenchman, who took his first podium finish since 2007 with third in the recent British Grand Prix, was riding with his personal trainer (and former motocross world champion) Yves Demaria when he fell ‘entering a turn, hitting his left leg badly’.

After an examination of the injury, which confirmed a fracture, the 28-year-old underwent surgery to have a screw inserted. de Puniet will now do all he can to be back on track when the MotoGP summer break ends with the Czech Republic Grand Prix at Brno on August 16.

de Puniet is currently the leading satellite Honda rider with eighth place in the MotoGP World Championship standings, after ten of 17 rounds, having already scored 13 points more than during the whole of last season.
